Stack thermometer finally came in today so I want to install it tonight. It's the Condar (I think) thermometer with 3" or 4" probe. How high up the base stack should it go? I was thinking 3'. Can it go on the side of the base stack where it's flared out? I'd like to put it in the front, but will be getting a hood next year and won't be able to see it.

Thanks

A stack thermometer for a stove goes 18 inches above the fire box so I would assume the same would be true for a evaporator.

I have mine at the transition point to round pipe above the base stack

I put mine in at eye level.

False alarm on the thermometer. My wife picked it up and they gave her the wrong one...not sure how these guys stay in business with the service I've been getting.

My base stack is 5' long so it'd be about 8' in the air if I put it at the transition.

Jon, just looked at your pics. Where your's is located is what I have in mind.

Thanks
