I found this on another list that I subscribe to. Not too sure how accurate it is but thought I should pass it on!
FYI, I read that Cornell University in NY has some 12% sugar content Maple Trees left for sale. Thought about getting a couple but I'd be pushing up dandelions before they grew large enough to tap. sigh!!!!!!!
Anyone here know if this is true?

I am happier because I never test my sap's sugar content.

I wish I didn't, but at the same time I'd be wondering why I was only getting 75:1 ratios and trying to figure out where the water was coming in from. Or wondering if someone was pumping water into my tanks to make me think I'm getting great runs.

i gota wonder tho at 12 % sugar it seems the tree would taste sweet and every animal in the forest would wanna nibble on it! maybe not but it sure seems like it, i know a fellow trader was just telling me the story of how they got some 6 percent trees that they planted, that seems less likely to get chewed but still seems possible!
Our bucket trees tested over 4% yesterday, but I have to admit that we cheated and threw out the ice.
We have been running between 2 and 2 1/2 percent, though without ice.
It's been a sweet year so far.
