I've just damaged my old tin Leader "Vermont" 2 x 4, darn it, and I've got serious leaks to fix. The Leader Company folks tell me it's going to be trouble from now on, because caramelized syrup gets sucked into the locked seams as the melting soldere drips out, and keeps new solder from completely fusing with the old. So they don't recommend my bringing it to Swanton for repair.
They do say you can use other sealants, if they are food-safe and can stand the temperatures, which, after all, are not very high. Many silicone sealants would seem to comply. Then there are plumber's epoxies.
Has anyone experience/advice on using such things?
