What evaporation rate should you be able to get out of a 2x4 pan and a preheater also over the fire?

My 2X4 will put out around 12 gallons per hour. More if the wood is kiln dry or close. I burn mostly pine with a little mixed hard wood. This year my wood isn't quite as dry as I'd like and I've seem my evaporation rate drop as low as 7 gph at times so, I'm splitting it smaller as I stoke the arch.
Hope this helps....

If you ignore the 30-60 minutes for the thing to heat up, my homemade 2x4 is getting between 8 and 10 gph with wood (oak and ash) that is split fairly fine.
My 2x4 seems to be between 10-15 gph normally, its outside. My father in law got it to go through 140 gallons of sap in 6 hours yesterday. But he really got it hot, the front of the arch had white on it. Thats with old barn boards and a blower.
Mine has a 2x2 divided syrup pan a 2x2 raised flue pan and a preheater.

My 2x4 runs at 16-18 gal/hr (US) - flat pan, 3 compartment, pre heater pan on top burning plywood pallets.

Boy, I must be doing something wrong. I have a half-pint and only evaporate about 5 - 7 gph.

Harken,
You are the champ at 2x4 flat pans. What is your secret!
Upon further review..... Dill's father in law has you beat.
He had that little rig working hard. Granted yesterday was 50 degrees with little to no wind. And it was all really old construction salvage lumber. And by old it was a minimum of 60 years, and probably hardwood.

We have a little 18x48 D@G Hobby evap I usally get 10to 12 gph. If I boil longer I can come close to 15gph. I have a blower and use seasoned oak and dry maple

I have a homemade 2-1/2x4 with a flat bottom pan and get between 8-12 gph. I really have to keep on it and use good dry wood to get the 10-12 gph evap rate. Next year I hope to add a preheater.

We have a Leader WSE 2x4. The back pan is a 2x2 drop flue pan and the front is a 2x2, 3 channel flat pan. The stack is 10 " diameter and approximately 16' high. We use a blower.
Yesterday we put approx. 150 gal sap through in 7 hours using mixed hardwood that has been dried for several years and split to wrist/forearm size and firing every 10 minutes.
Up until this year we used a 1/2 Pint (the old style with a rounded bottom) and the best I could do was around 5-7 gal/per hour. The 2x4 with a blower is a huge improvement!

I am getting low to mid 20s with my oil fired 2 x 4 rig. Seems I was closer to thirty last year.
