This is a simple question, what length wood for a 4x12 rig? Front pan would be 4x4.

We're boiling now on a 6x16 D&G rig, with a 6x6 front pan. It eats 4' wood like there is no tomorrow. We plan on upgrading to an airtight rig with forced draft. It would be nice to know what size wood a 4x12 would take, I am thinning out our sugarbush this year.

I have a 4x12 and burn most wood in the 30 to 36 inch range. certainly do use the 4' pieces mixed in. Wood should have grates under it, not be up on the ramp and should be away from the door several inches.

When my parents had a 4x12 they burned 4' slabs.

the wood should be the length of the grates

My 4x12 has 3 foot grates. Also a 3 foot wood splitter is easier to find and cheaper than a 4 footer.
