Heating element/Washing

Do i need to heat up the water when im doing a wash on my r/o ? would i need to put a heating element in the wash tank to heat it up ???????

Nate, You should heat your water when you do every wash. After every 4 hours you should do a hot water rinse. After rinsing it with hot water, rinse with permeate for 10 minutes and go back to concentrating. Every 12 hours, you should do a hot, soap wash and let it wash until it shuts off at high temp.(115degrees)The pH of your wash water should be 11. Check it with litmus papers, more soap, higher pH. After it washes and shuts off on high temp, rinse with a lot of permeate--300-500 gallons, the more the better. I concentrate very high, and beat my membranes pretty hard, but if you follow this procedure religiously, your membranes, like mine, will always work at full capacity! Good Luck!!

so im going to need a big premate tank then, i know im getting like a 30 gallon wash tank but now since i need 300-500 gallons to clean every 12 hours,, Lot of learning to do

Any idea where to buy a heating element for the wash tank, online? I had the same question and am not sure where/what I'm looking for.

Nate--your wash tank that you get from Lapierre may have a heating element in it.

Kevin--You could try a plumbing supply house...I think FW Webb has a lot of different elements. I would get one that screws into a fitting in the tank if it were possible

most hardware stores have them. I know until I got used to it I burnt out several, I would empty the tank and forget to turn them off. Braincramp equals burnt out element

When you do the hot water rinse, are you just recirculating hot water through the wash tank and membrane? I know letting my pump heat the water takes 45 minutes. But you guys are saying heat the water first, then recirc.? How long do you let that go for? You definitely want hot permeate, right, not just hot water?

Tim, You will want hot permeate. 95 - 100 degrees, let it circulate for 10 minutes, rinse with clean permeate for 10 minutes and go for it!!

Thanks, Mike. So I either wait for the pumps to heat the water (30 minutes?), or heat it with an element and speed the process WAY up, I guess.
