1/4 rope works for me!

I got some 3/32 wire from lowes and hooked up two strands one to each side of the lever on the flip top. And just pull one to open it and one to close it. When closing it I had to time it just right and sort of get it to rock with both the opening wire and the closing wire. then flip up onto the top and pull on the closing wire. Since it was all the way open you had to swing it. or I'd put a stop of sorts on my next one so it only opened up straight and you can close it easier.

On my 8x11 baking pan I don't have a cover yet. Bill mason is making me one.

Also I ran the wires down the outside of the stack so they were right by the evaporator and I didn't have to go outside to open and close the cover.

I leave mine open the entire season and then tape it closed at the end of the season with a few pieces of electrical tape over the top and down the sides.
