I'm just into setting up my first vacuum system and I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb for CFM vs number of taps, like 5 CFM per 100 taps or ????

The debate rages on I see the number 1 CFM for every 100 taps bandied about. I think if you have a well designed system without all sorts of sap ladders and leaks vacuum is vacuum some is good more is better so do with what you have. Now if your going out with a blank check 1 CFM per 50 would be better. Having high CFMs and a vacuum pump that cant pull high vacuum is counter productive. What I meen to say is if you look at a squirell cage blower it to is a vacuum pump with very high CFMs......but very low HGs of vacuum. You need a pump that has balance 20 CFMs with 24 HGs is better than a cheap warn out pump the has 50 CFMs and 18 HGs.
