I am installing new threaded valves on my pan. Should I use any type of thread sealant - teflon tape etc ??

White teflon tape is the best way to seal them. Dont get crazy with the pipe wrench. Two things about teflon tape it will "help" seal pipe threads but it also acts as a lubrecant. You can end up overtighting fittings. You ask WHAT the heck is wrong with over tight? Its easy to over tighten a pipe fitting into a cast iron or plastic fitting cracking it because it didnt seem tight.
I only know this by watching others make this mistake..........no not me never did it myself only saw it done to my DeLaval vacuum condensate tank.

Use enough teflon tape that you don't have to be a gorrilla and over tighten things. I spent 11 years fixing plumbing fixtures that guys figured had to be as tight as they could reef on them. I have had to cut out and replace many thet would never hold water again as they were streched out so bad.
