flat flter

I am no longer using cone filters. I will have a 24x16” flat filter/canner. What size do I cut the felts to? I under stand I want the filter to ride up the edges but I don’t think I need it 36x36”.

UncleT: How do you heat the filter/bottler? I used the same thing back in the day and what hung over the sides started to burn stink and get hard as a rock. Im sure you know this but the more surface area the quicker the filtering. How do you hold up the middle area during filtering. Does it pull on the sides. I would use it a few times and see what size ends up getting used. I got jiggy one time and cut mine close and then it shrank after I washed it.

a local dealer that i got my flat filters from said that his wife sews the corners of there filters so that they sit into there filter rack and allow more surface area. i have to do this to some of mine before the season starts it seems like a good idea

You can buy flat filters made for your filter tank.

What size are the filters that are made to fit my canner? I thik I might just cut the filter to and sew the corners. I will post results....

I cut the orlon filter just small enough to fit into the tray and the paper filters I cut them so they would come up the side and the wife sewed the corners.
They work real nice!!
You could do the same with the orlons if you can sew them, the wife couldn't.

Im starting to see a good use for those crib sheets the wife wont throw out. I can see the finish pans with Barney filters.
