I am experimenting with running amsoil syth compressor oil SAE 20 this year. A friend runs it in his BB4 (predicessor to the SP-22) and it seems to run cooler than the oil we tried last year...

Don't waste your money on exotic oil. The best oil for these pumps is 20 or 30 weight NON DETERGENT motor oil. About 3 bucks a quart and available at any auto supply.

The most important thing is to make sure you have oil and its clean.

perhaps I'm wasting my money- but we tried the non-detergent last year and our pump ran hot- so when my friend mentioned his BB4 didn't run "hot" I figured it was worth a shot...might be his pump vs. mine, etc...
