is this a good idea or not?

I am using 1" ceramic blanket under the flu pan in my evaporator as I was putting it down I had the idea of covering it with some refractory cement to
a) make clean up easier
b) allow better air flow
c) protect it a bit
will the refectory cement make any difference?

I think it will muck it up and turn it into a gobby mess.It will become the insulator and stop the blanket from doing its job. I would put spacers on the arch and install blanket and cover with metal. You need to maintain the thickness of the blanket for it to work.
