Biodiesel

Hello All,

While I was on vacation this past week, I stopped at a gas station that sold soy-biodiesel. Does anyone have any info about this stuff. From what I understand it can be used in a diesel engine with only slight modifications. Does this mean that I can use it to fuel an oil-fired evaporator? Heating oil and diesel are almost identical so I thought this might be a interesting and enviromently friendly idea????

It is my understanding that in a vehicle, bio-diesel requires a separate tank and fuel heater. The bio-diesel is pre-heated in the first few miles of running a vehicle on regular diesel then tanks switched over. The bio-diesel stays solid or won't flow until a higher temperature than regular diesel. So in an evaporator, you would have to somehow heat up the fuel to get it going.

I read where the smell of exhaust from a biodiesel vehicle smells like french fries cooking. Might make an interesting smell in the sugarhouse. French fries and maple syrup.Yum :wink:
