Has anyone else heard anything about the NY association putting a two cent per container assesment/surcharge/fee on all syrup containers? To make up for lost state funding? There is also a fee for bulk containers, but I forget what the fee is.

This is the first I have heard of it.

Is this a done deal, or is it "tentative"?

I can't answer for New York but do know the topic has been talked about alot. It has been a penny for as long as I can remember. I'm never one to want to pay more for anything but at the same point I think if they are going to continue doing research they should up it to 2 cents

I guess as long as the money goes direct to NYSMPA and not via a regular tax channel, although never thrilled to pay more, I think the value would outweigh the cost by a considerable amount and i wouldn't be totally uncomfortable with this. In this state, the NYSMPA is the only way the collective voices of the NY sugarmakers can be heard, and with all of the cuts going on, we, along with people in all other areas of the economy, will have to learn to make do without the state tax dollars. At the school where I teach, we are looking at an approximately 10% reduction in our budget due to lost state funding, this is going to affect everyone in NY somehow. Hopefully, in the long run it pans out as a positive, its gotten pretty expensive to live here.

Davey,

I agree. I don't like all the money grabbing going on in this state. However, if the right people collect it, and it goes to the right people,...alright.

I also agree with the "hard to live in this state". Politicians have ruined this state.

Were called "The Empire State". 100-150 years ago we were. But not now. The politicians should change our state motto. To me, that motto just mocks us, knowing how this state really is.

I could go on with this topic, but since I enjoy the privledge of posting on this site, I am going to stop typing....
