I am thinking of buying a another evaporator, what is the difference between welded and soldered pans, and how do you tell if they are lead free pans? also are tin pans any good?

Welded is a better built pan in my opinion. It will be lead free and you dont have to worry about loseing your solder if you burn the pan. If it is soldered with lead free solder it will say so on the pan. I dont think new pan are being soldered any more they are all welded.

Go with the welded as DAVE Y said. Here on the trader we dont recommend that you burn your pans........................but we all do it. Stay away from the tin they most likely have lead in the solder. You can get test kits at the store to test for lead. Bldg. inspectors use them to see if water lines are sweated with the right solder.
