To help me get going and try out this maple-making stuff, a friend gave me a 2x4 pan that will be placed on a wood-burning arch.
Along the bottom of the pan (on the sidewall) is a 1/2" threaded hole for draining the syrup. I need to add a pipe and valve, but I'm not sure what I can get by with.
Is copper tubing and a basic 1/4-turn ball valve from the local plumbing store okay? Any concerns with the heat from the arch melting the soldering or value? Any concerns with the copper/brass interacting with the sap? Or am I just being too cautious?
