I hate to start a new thread for this, but I browsed the forum for a bit and did not see sap contamination addressed.

I am looking for a high volume pump to transfer sap from my collection tank into my storage/feed tank. I have seen posts on using gas powered water pumps (from various sources) and sump pumps, etc.

Is there any concern with the pump contaminating the sap?

What should I be aware of here...? I was mosting concerned about non-food grade lubricants (oil) or other nasty "stuff".

with my honda WX10 the pump is in a separate casting/unit from the motor...no oil in the pump mechanism to the best of my knowledge...never been a concern of mine..

Most newer pumps have a oiless seal between the pump and motor and as long as you dont run them dry they will last a long time. They use a combination ceramic and rubber seal. If its old and has a zerk fitting on it it can be lubed with food grade grease but you have to clean it up first. Like the filter presses they use food grade grease.
