We own a liquor store and jsut got in some maple whisky, very very good but very expensive so of course we experimented with our own..I suggest everyone (if havent already) try to make some up. IT is very good to site in front of the fire with this winter pondering spring!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Are just talking a straight mix, or do you have a special recipe you are willing to share?

We've been known to drop a splash of syrup into some Jack Daniels while boiling. Call it a "Lumber Jack".

I use a double shot glass. Put syrup in first then top it off with Jack Daniels.
I call it maple jack. The syrup ends up being the chaser to take away the bite.

A shot of hot syrup and a Killians boiling soda here.

Amen to that Keith. Russ, we've been known to stock Killians at the shack . Going to have to try that too.

adk1, the maple whisky you are talking about is it called Sapling ? If so I have put away a few of those this past summer ! More of a liqueur. If it is the same stuff, you only can buy it in Vermont.

no, it isnt called Sapling and this stuff is from Canada someplace. I forget what it is called. I basically just made my own, for each shot of whisky I added 1/2 shot of medium syrup. that is bascially how I liked it. I ahvent made a big batch yet but next year I will take a 1.75 liter bottle of whatever we polish off first and do a mix.

I read somewhere about using Canadian Club to mix with hot sap, and it is indeed a very nice treat during a boil. I stuck a bottle in the snow bank next to my evaporator for the winter. Nice thing about using hot sap instead of syrup is that you don't have to mix a lot of the whiskey in to dilute it, and since it's still mostly water, you can drink more of it to stay warm, without taking in too much sugar or alcohol.

By the way, I think they called this drink a Maple Leaf.
