Dry line size?

Here are the specs- SP-22 in sugarhouse, 60 yards away from releaser. Mechanical releaser with two mainlines (maybe three) runnning into it. One mainline approximately 1000 feet and one about 300 feet. All mains are 3/4 inch, only 200-250 taps altogether.

The question-what size dry line do I need to run into the releaser? Would reallly like to use black pipe since I have to cross a creek and at two spots the line may be about 20 feet in the air across 20 yard distances with no support

My two cents says minimum would be 1"

Black pipe is about 17 cent a foot for 1" we run all our releasers(3) on 1" black from the vac pump.

I always like bigger.. like 1.25 or 1.5, if there is ever a chance that you are going bigger, with the bush or the pump, up size it now and be done with it...

With 200-250 taps total, you may not need a dry line. I've did 400 taps on 1" mainline last year (about 3000' main line) and lost almost no vacuum between my pump and the end of my lats. I was planning on adding a dry line my first year with vac, but I figured I would try it first without and I was pleasantly surprised.

I do have a good, steady pitch - so not too many places where the sap is going to fill the line and block the vacuuum.

He is talking just from the vacuum pump to the releaser for a line (pipe) size.

I had no problem maintaining 18" of vacuum at my releaser which was 900' away from my pump using 3/4" pipe. From my releaser I have two 3/4" mainlines. One of them is about 1000' long. The other mainline and lateral mains total another 1000' or more. At the farthest tap it was still pulling 17" of vacuum. Try the 3/4" and if it doesn't work it can be used for mainlines when you upgrade it to a bigger line.

Thanks all, probably go with 1 inch since I can probably squeeze out another 100 taps next year and since it is above the ground quite a ways in some spots I only want to do it once!
