Hello all,
What type of regular sugar, and what ratio (Maple sugar/regular sugar) do you need to make cotton candy? Does it matter to use sugar from light or dark syrup?
Thank You

We Use Extra Fine White Cane Sugar Mixed 5/1 With Maple Sugar. I Would Use Sugar Made With Darker Syrup As It Has More Flavor.

Johnny-
The way you requested it was maple / regular, so flip flop mikes answer. he would put 1 part maple sugar to 5 parts regular sugar.
I've used 4 parts regular to 1 part maple and worked fine. I was a cotton candy maker virgin until our association's openhouse at a local fair. Takes about 5 minutes to become a pro. Trick is the heat, and also do it on a dry day with low moisture in the air. Makes all the difference in the world.

Davey,
Just type cotton candy machine into your browser. Several sources pop up.

I had heard there was a difference between a traditional c-c machine and the ones for maple cotton candy. Am I wrong?

I believe our county association bought ours from a regular condiment supply business. We did get the heavy duty one. My experience is when you start running the thing at a fair or show, you hardly ever shut it down.
