I was just curious if any of you out there had any experience running one of these pumps. I've got one that I'm planning on hooking up to a gas engine, but I'm not sure how much hp it will need. Currently I'm leaning towards a 5.5hp Honda. Will this work? Also, does anyone know of an easy source for replacement carbon vanes?

I have 2 brand new ones that I bought a few years ago to have on hand for a back up that I will probably end up selling since I'm going to eventually buy a liquid ring and go to high vacuum.
But anyways it should work ok. You can still buy vanes from a dealer
Here is the link to the specs.

I have one of these and 5.5hp will operate it easily.

You could get away with a 3.5HP gas its the RPMs that you need most likley in the 1750 range. Are you going to direct drive it? some of the pumps dont take kindly to side torqe so check it out. I just put a new motor on a Gast 2567-V107 and its only a 1HP 1750 RPM. That pump can be run continuous at full vacuum without a regulator.

The pump is designed to run at around 1300 rpm and it is also designed to be installed with a belt connection as opposed to a direct connection. Previously it was run with an 8hp B&S which now sounds likes it's on its last legs so I figured I would try to get away with a smaller engine to save fuel.

I sent a message to DS maple but see he hasn't posted in well over a year so i will bring this topic back. I picked up a 3040 today on ebay and am also looking to run a gas engine on mine. MY engine is plenty big, 6-7hp honda, but the price was right ($50 auction deal). Can anyone suggest a pulley side for this application. Also i see online this pump can be run as a dry vane or wet, has anyone done a flood system on this pump.
Thanks
Jason

If you ever need bearings or veins for a Gast pump let me know. I have a 15" square boz full of them. I will sell them at a 1/4 of retail price.
