It's been a long time, but isn't that essentially what we called a Bucher funnel? What you used with a filter flask?

I don't read the French, but based on the drawings I don't see a patentable idea.

Nice. So, not a filter press as much as a filter, well, um, suck.

I'm trying to imagine how to use the same idea with a filter cone, since a cone would increase the surface area. But dang, I could probably cobble something like that together with stuff I have laying around... except a vaccum pump, of which I have none.

I do have an electric tire pump though. Imagine that same setup where you pour your syrup to be filtered into the top container, seal it, then pressurize it. Instead of creating negative pressure under the syrup and "pull" it through the filter, you create positive pressure above it and "push" it through. Hmmmm.
