Todays wind gusts got me thinking. Last season Id be boiling away on a windy day and everything would be ok until a strong gust would overcome the draft of the arch and if the door was open fire would blow out the doors and kill the boil completely . This situation caused me to stop boiling 3 times last year. I am running the 2x6 on a 9" stack with 12'-0" high.It boils great but I was wondering if I increase the ht of the stack another 3 or 4 feet will this reduce the chances of this type of blowback? Id like to do something because I am windswept 80%of the time -ss

I'm running 17' of 8" pipe including the base stack on my 2x6 and have never had that problem. I have boiled on some pretty windy days too.

Regardless of wind, the higher stack should defintely improve your boil and draft. Seems like barometric pressure influence my boil more than wind. I love to boil in a snowstorm, but it's definitely a slow boil. Steam just does not want to rise with low pressure.
