Does anyone know what retail and bulk prices have done over time, say over the past 20-30 years? A graph or table format would be nice if available. I'm curious to see if syrup prices have gone up, stayed flat, increased with inflation, etc...

Thanks

!987 I got 2.95 for fancy, 2.75 for medium amber, and 2.45 for Dark amber, I didn't sell anything else so I can't find what I got. In the season 1992 I got .90 a lb for everything I sold which was not much at that price.

Wow! That's quite a drop in prices in only a few years. It doesn't appear that prices have gone up at all and have fluctuated around the same range for 20 years. Prices adjusted for inflation would be nice. Hopefully the upward trend we've been seeing this past year stays up this time...just as soon not see it drop back down. It makes it longer for me to pay back the equipment I've bought and intend to buy as I expand.

At $0.90 how do you make any money, or even cover your expenses?

Thanks for the info.

At $0.90/lb you don't cover expenses. $0.90 per lb times 11.33lbs / USG = $10.20 per USG. If you're not using and RO your oil costs that much per gallon.

I have a customer who has 25 gallons of dark syrup for sale ,does anyone know who is paying top dollar right now? Someone told me Maple Grove has it on the shelf for $65. a gallon. Hard to believe.

I found some old paper work out in the greenhouse on Maple prices from the 20,30s,40,and 50,s. They were down to $1:25 a gallon in the 30,s and the highest was 4:54 in 1955. The 1957 price was 3:97 a gallon. In Ottawa in the late 70s you could buy a gallon for 11 bucks at the farm. Remember our gallon is 4.54 liters also and weighs 13.75 pounds as syrup.
