What do you all pay for tap rentals? By the tap, or acre? I have some trees I am looking at tapping, on someone elses property. I am sure they will say tap them for free but I would like to make a reasonable offer just in case.

this year I paid .50 per tap or gave the equivalent in syrup. I would think it is hard to rent per acre. You could have 1 tap in an acre or 40 etc. May be the big companies that rent from the large lumber companies in Maine and canada rent per acre but would think smaller operations are better renting on a tap count basis. That way the producer and the owner both know what they are getting.
you will also find that rental fee will vary geographically.
Also if you do a search this topic came up in the last year. You can get some info there
