Took my boys chuck hunting tonight. I have a 204 ruger with a bipod and nikon scope for chucks. It was my oldest boys turn, hes nine, to try so we layed down and he had the gun. I said "You think you can hit one from here?". He said "I could hit a salamander from here". I said "Ok, whatever". Chuck comes out down at the bottom of the field. He touches it off. Whomp. He goes "I hit em". I see the tail wagging. I paced it off, 136 yards. First shot at a chuck for him. Right in the head. We had to take mom up to do a photo shoot. Lucky bastard. Theron

Remember that day I was down there that he said he could out shoot you, I guess the proof is out.

No wonder you haven't complained about any chewed tubing. With a marksman like that in the family there probably isn't a tree rat for miles!

I used to have a cousin that has passed on being much older than I was and I used to kill some in the summer for him and he ate them and claimed they tasted awesome. Guess they should, all they eat is grass but they sure stink when you clean them, at least the internals do.

Remember if you can't discribe what they taste like you can go to the old phrase and say they taste like chicken

Around here they are just considered varmints for making all the holes in the farmers fields. Ive never ate one but they are really clean crittes as far as what they eat. Theyre probly healthier to eat than what we buy. Im pretty big on eating what I shoot but I dont eat them. Kind of like shooting crows. Theron

Got a real chuckle from the story. Tell your son this one.

I had an elderly lady who ALWAYS had to have her maple syrup order canned in quart glass. So, one day in May I was canning her syrup, making rhubarb pie and saw a mother woodschucks and 4 little ones in my garden. I cranked open the window, put my 22 on a chair and put the barrel through the opening of the window. End of the day, I had four quarts of first run in glass, two rhubarb pies, and five woods, and never left the kitchen!!
