I have just completed my barrel stove evaporator and now have a question related the most efficent way to confirgure the floor. Being only 35 inches long, there isn't much room to do much. Don't want to over engineer this thing.

Should just fill the bottom with several inches of sand and fire brick the sides?

Should I build up a ramp toward the rear pan? (Would not leave much room for the wood fire.)

Do I need grates over the sand?

Will post some pix soon as I figure out how to do it.

I would put some kind of small blower in the bottom to make it burn hotter. Check out this tread, "Building my Drum Evaporator" Started by Dennis H. Dennis H. did a great job on his and he has lots of pictures.

Just a word of thanks for the redirect to the beauty fabricated by Dennis H.. Just wish mine was not so far along. I was able to glean some great ideas that are being incorporated. Rick
