Filter Aid

Last year I filtered w/o it and my syrup came out just fine, this year not so good so I am going resorting to refiltering with filter aid. How much should be added to lets say 1 gallon of syrup? Does anyone have any tricks or advice?

I take it you don't have a filter press. If not, add 1/8 cup of aid to near boiling syrup, stir very well, and then pour into the filters. You should use several prefilters to one cloth. It may filter slowly, but that's normal. Good luck.

Thanks. I only make 1-2 gallons a season so I guess the 5lb bag I had to buy will last me some time. LOL While I only make a small amount each season this site is always helpfull. So much so that this year I have attained the holy grail of sugaring by sucessfully making syrup, cream, candy and sugar. Thanks again.
