It takes me ushally 2 hours . I know that I can make it quicker if I have to But I tend to drive like an old lady. Dont know who is going yet. Massey Jack may Go , My son said he might like to go, If I bring him Bruce will take a bath on the food. For such a skinny kid he can put the food away. Even if I go by myself I alwayse have fun over there it is a beautiful drive. When I worked on the family farm that was one of the rutes that I drove to deliver melons and sweetcorn in the summer. That ride never got old. -ss

Hi all,
Went to the Open House yesterday.
This was my first time and I must say I was neither impressed nor disappointed.
I guess middle of the road.
I did enjoy the three or four seminars we sat in on, very imformative.
Got to meet Chris from the Maple Guys, and a few other folks.
Thanks for the ride NH Maplemaker, it's my turn next time.
Oh yeah let's not forget the food!!!
Oh well another rainy and raw day here in Newport!!

I made it this morning. Seemed like a good size crowd, but then again with the weather what else was there to do. I wanted to listen to the speaker on RO's but I can't hear well and he had quite a french accent so other than reading the slides That was out. That Leader 160 gph RO on sale was still well over $1000 more than the quote I had on a new 300gph CDL. I did pick up a bunch of glass i needed.

Mark that Mini Elite 160 has two 4" membranes like the 300 gph CDL RO. The CDL has a bigger high pressure pump so that it can do the 300 gph. I would buy the CDL.

Royalmaple and I went yesterday and sold Bruce our special blend mersh. While we were there we met Brookledge and talked to Gearpump. We had a good time as usual. I bought some of the supplies that I need for the expansion. I saw Chris from The Maple Guys but didn't have a chance to talk to him. Chris I'll be in touch for more of the supplies that I need.

Went to Bascoms on saturday. Wanted to sit in on the Ro seminar but after about 15 minutes I had had enough. I couldnt understand half of the stuff the guy was saying. Not his fault I am sure that he would not understand my french.( I only know one popular french word) My son ate his share of hotdogs and chips and soda and dunkin donuts and everything else they had to offer. we got into the truck at noon and he said "Where are we going to stop for lunch?" I think I have a hollow 14 year old. I waited to get my hydrometer tested but I was told the lady was a no show for the 10:am testing. Talked to L-wood , And Chris from the maple trader. Picked up some tubing I am not sure why as I will not add taps next year.I find it almost imposable to walk by tubing at 10%off. We had a real good day. My wife fared well at the sheep and fiber tour, we sold some cream and syrup. She has been making some jewlrey and canvas bags to replace plastic shoping bags. Combined together we have a pretty nice table even in the rain she did well at the sales.-

I went Sat. I went to the RO and improving sap production talks. As mentioned above, the RO was heavy french accent but I was able to get what he was saying. Had to pay real close attention to do it. He covered basic principle and i was looking more for actual operation and not just what he covered. All in all it was OK. As for the getting more sap talk most was covered before but it was still good to hear a rather good talk about the subject. I did come away with a change in how I will set up the bush I will begin late summer as far as design and I made notes and a sketch to go by when I begin. Those were the only 2 I got to this year. I did haul 405 gal of B and Com syrup which I sold to Bruce. I notified Bruce during the week that I had been offered $3.00/lb all grades by Haven King of Maple Grove Farms and would he match it, he did. SO I got $3.00 x 405 lbs. That was good. I am sure it will continue to climb but I was ready to sell NOW. Once in the past I had some logs to harvest and I got a price picture which was rising rather fast so I waited. When it got right I cut the trees and went to sell the logs just 1 week later and the price had dropped out of the market, sugar maple and cherry, which is what I had at my landing was now worth less than before the price climb. This is why I took a price that made me grin and did not try to hold for more later in the year. I am real comfortable with the check i got.

GMCooper- the other thing that is the main kicker for the CDL machine over the Leader is the fact that it has recirculation pumps on the columns, Leader hasn't caught on after 20 years, right Matt. The reason that the CDL or Lapierre machines double up on them is not the high pressure pump but the recirculation pumps, If you don't believe me, have a fellow sugarmaker that has either one of these machines, shut his or hers off and watch what happens, right Matt. LOL

802 from what you said if I understand correctly the 300gph CDL unit has same membranes as Leadres 160 gph but CDL has recirculation pumps on each to double the capacity? Or close to double.

I have really like the CDL as far as how simple they appear to operate. That purchase price is a little tough to swallow right know regardless of which brand.

You are right about the CDL machine, Talk to Theron the BIG SAP BARRON and(it kind of rhymes doesn't it, maybe I should be a poet) he will tell you how easy they are to run.

Mark- I bought the cdl 600 and I did some serious thinking before I spent the money too. It seemed like a lot but let me tell you it was the best thing I bought. That and the ring pump. It is very easy to operate. I bought the 600 becouse there wasnt that much difference in money between the 300 and the 600 and you can add a membrane to the 600. To be honest with you I think it is a perfect match to my evap becouse if I concentrate to 1.5 gallons per minute of conc it is just what my evap runs at about 90 gallons per hour the way we are running it. The other thing is that they never run at the full rating becouse your sap is usually too cold. Ive had mine one year and after this next season Ill be adding membranes already. With the price of any type of fuel or the work it takes to get wood I think they are great. If you bought fuel youd pay for it in a year or two. Theeeeron.

I think the idea of recirculation is a good one, just not sure if it will catch on. kinda like computers, maybe one day everyone will own one. But I think they are just a fad. Just have to wait and see.
