i want to make a hood for my 2x6 flue pan, the pan is actualy 2x6, the whole evap is a 2x8 waterloo. i was wondering if a 8 inch stack will be sufficient or should i go with a 10 inch? i will probably use aluminum to make it since stainless is a bit outa my price range

I just looked at leaders book and they use a 6" stack on a 2x6 hood.

the Phaneuf 2 x 6 came with a 7" hood over the 2x4 with preheater and there is no problem with that.
The front pan 2 x 2 spills a fair bit and it has a 7" as well. Next year I am going to add a bit of stack to the front and wrap it with that silvered bubble wrap , which should make it draw better.

Wind direction and doors in the sugar shack make a difference too.

I would go with at least 8" minimum and put a damper in it. Better to have too much stack than not enough and with a damper, you can always adjust it to block off some of it if it is too much.
