I always thought 4 quarts = 1 gal.
I've been useing glass May-o jars that say there a quart to can syrup in....but have found it takes 4 1/2 of them to fill a 1 gallon syrup jug.
So..either the jars aren't a full quart or the gallon jugs are more than a gallon.

Any thoughts????

Use a measuring cup and see if 8 cups = 1 of your quarts.

could it be that the maple syrup plastic jugs are made a little extra capacity since the syrup is bottled hot and it shrinks as it cools? that way when ya fill them and they cool there is still a true gallon in there, wheres as the quart jars you have may not be designed that way and are rather just a true quart?

Maybe the mayo jars are by weight and not volume?

I have been filling blue 5 gal drums for later and now am finding that if you go all the way to the top it's more like 5.5... thats if you dont want air space. throws off my whole count
