We made syrup for the first time this year and loved it, but I still have a lot to learn. Are there any recommended books/publications/websites that can help me learn more about the equipment? I hear lots of conversations about "arch-this" and "raised flue-that" and have no idea what everyone is talking about. Please pardon my ignorance!!

Haha,
Try the " North American Maple Producers Manual". It is like a sugaring bible for anyone who is starting out or even someone whos done it for a while and needs something as a referance. It is full of information about all aspects of sugaring and has greatly helped me and many other people too im sure. And as far as sugaring websites, you already found the sugaring knowledge goldmine here at Maple Trader. Good Luck.

I was given the same advice a few months ago on this board. Great book! I too am lost in much of the terminology and feeling a bit dumb, but this book was a huge help. Cost about $25 and had it shipped to me.
Simpler book that is also good to have is Backyard Sugarin. Easy to follow, gives good ideas, and enjoyable to read.
Good luck! We went from 3 gallons last year to what looks like 20-25 this year when we are done. I'm bitten!
