Does anyone make a gas (or diesel) RO? Or do I need to get a bigger generator. I now use a 5500 watt cont. with 8500 surge rating to run everything. This would not run an RO. Has anyone ever seen an RO powered by an engine?

You can ask any of the larger Amish producers in Southwestern PA. :-)
They either use a direct gas powered, or like Henry Breneman (sp?) in Meyersdale, I believe he just got the mega generator.
For you, why not just buy two generators and run both only when you need the RO? Otherwise, a larger generator will cost $$ to run if you aren't using at least 50% of the power.

Leader has Gas Powered R/Os i am not sure the price but i do know they have them. why not buy a small diesel generator you can normally pick up one at an auction for a couple grand that would run your whole sugar house and more and they aren't bad on fuel either!

The maple manufactures will charge you 3 prices for what it is really worth anyway. Like Jerry said, go with a generator. Sell the one you have and use the money towards a bigger one. You would be much better off in the long run vs trying to get an RO that has a ton more things on it to tear up and costs as much a a pickup truck.
I use a 15000 watt running 22500 surge generator......I also have a 2500 watt Honda that will run the sugar house after the RO is done... I wanted a 10500 wattt one but they stoped making the one I bought in that size.....The dealers should be able to tell you how big youll need.......Mine uses around 8000 watts which gives me plenty left over to run everything....
