I bought some syrup off bascom last year in 5 gallon metal containers.I rinsed them good and I thought that I could reuse them but when I opened it it smelled like an old work boot or worse. I gave it a rinse with cold water and it helped but it still had an odor.The odor was not bad but differant. I need bulk containers and Am throwing out the question to see if anyone has reused these metal cans in the past? - Anyone in my area have any extra 5 gallon blues that they want to get rid of? -ss

I bought two of thies cans last year.When I got done with them I washed them out with hot water and blew them out with a air hose and stored them in a box with out lids on them. This year I just washed them out and set to go. No smell at all.

try hot water with no soap and i would not recommend using plastic to store bulk it is pretty hard to keep sanitary

You can get 5 gallon bulk water containers at Wallymart for around $ 7.

did you rinse them out after you emptyed them? baking soda and new caps will solve your problem. or put comm. in them at end of season.
