hey guys, I boiled yesterday and when I went out to check what was left over in the evaporator this AM I noticed most of the sap/syrup was slushy, but the less concentraed sap in the float box was pretty hard. will this damage/hurt the float at all? should I drain the flue/float box after every boil to prevent this?

If it's a newer welded pan then no, old tin then yes. If I have ice in my float box I pour hot water in to melt it. No foul no harm.

as soon as there is any heat in the flue pan it will thaw quick... just be sure your level is ok and your feed line isn't frozen solid... always drain the feed line.

No more sap than is in the float box, if it freezes, it has plenty of room to push up on the newer welded pans and won't hurt it any unless it has like 10" of sap, then it still shouldn't hurt it.
