What kind of oil pressure are you oil burners running?

My 301 Carlin runs at 150psi. Supposed to come from the factory like that, but someone must have screwed up, and it was only 100, which messed me all up for awhile til we actually tested it. We adjusted it up, and haven't had problems since. I guess we also could have just used a larger nozzle, but an oil man told me it should nebulize the fuel better at 150.

Well I just installed a gauge this morning and its only pushing 60lbs and moving the adjustment screw has zero effect. I think I may have a bum gauge it is a used one. Would it even run at 60lbs? It seems to be running ok I dont have any smoke. I think I may shut her down and go buy a new gauge.

Replaced the gauge and just as I thought the gauge was bad. I was able to adjust the pressure to 130psi. Adjusting the pressure up I was able to cut back the air to just before i saw smoke and was able to get the stack temp down to 500.

I think I may put in a smaller nozzel and crank the pressure up to 150 to see how it operates.

You may accomplish the same thing as you have, I will look and see if I can find my chart, because as you turn up the pressure you also turn up the volume of oil dispersed thru the nozzle. although it may burn better as it could atomize better.

I am also 150 with a carlin 301... 60 won't get you anywhere, or a real lazy flame... unless your burner is an older older burner(not high pressure type)

what brand/model is it?

the 60psi was a false reading due to a defective gauge. The burner is a old beckett with a new pump.

So your pressure is good then? What did the new gauge say?

When I first put the new gauge on the pressure was around 90 but that was after I fiddled with the pressure adjustment screw, while the old defective gauge was in place.

Once I put the new gauge on I was able to adjust the pressure to where ever I needed it. Currently the pressure is a steady 130psi.
