well my sugar content is 5% so it works out to be 17 to 1

I'm averaging roughly 38-42 per gallon of syrup, by best boil was 32-1 but that didnt last long

The sap I boiled last weekend was %3 so thats 28:1 .

2% - as usual. If it's like any other year, I'll be down to 1.7% soon. Noticing a ton of niter this year - more then ususal. Anyone else?

Danno, i had very minimal niter in the beginning but the last three boils yielded a very high amount of niter. I had to drain the pans and filter all of it through the press and clean the pans out.

Yes, definitely a lot of sand early in the season here too. Plugging the prefilter in two draws. Also think it's dark for early runs.

All my syrup this year is light and very little sugar sand. I have made3 about 97 gallon now and have never made more than 20 gallons of light in the past.

Ron,
You are getting it boiled quicker this year since you are not working a full time job and that has a lot to do with making light syrup.
