firebrick or pan blanket

Hi Guys, I was working on my arch for a 2x8 and it does not have fire brick under the drop flue rear pan. Should this be firebricked or blanketed or both? Thanks Jeff

It should be bricked with full size firebrick,on the flat surface you can dry brick them , on the sides use refactory cement. In the firebox you can put a layer of 1/2'' thick blanket on each side above the brickrest , then line it with full size fire brick. Most people don't but this helps save the arch.
