About 90 of our approx. 40 taps are in.. Trees are gushing...

Question, what type of bird are the ones that poke the holes on the trunks of trees?

I've never actually seen a bird do it. I'd say almost all of my Sugar Maples have spots where there are 3-8 shallow holes all next to each other with a sap 'beard' running down the trunk...

Could it be as obvious as a 'SapSucker?'

It is more than likely it is a yellow belly sap sucker, they are a fairly small woodpecker , they will sometime peck on something tin ,,that is my guess
