Paitio stones for fire bricks

Has anyone ever lined there evaporator with patio stones? I used 2" thick 24"x24" stone cut them to fit and put them in. Have not used the new evaporator yet this year. Hopefully they will take the heat. A friend used two 24"x24" stones on each side of his fire box last year and they never cracked.

I would be careful with those kind of stones. as they will draw moisture and explode when fired too hot.
