who in Vermont buys smaller amounts of syrup (2 to 3, 40gal barrels)? The few companies i've contacted would only buy if i had 8-10 barrels minimum. My barrels are plastic 100% food grade. i'll be upgrading them to stainless next season but couldn't do that this year. anyone have any places i could reach out to?

Thanks Dr Tim. i had plans to sell it to them but i'm not so sure i can now. it appears as of this year they stopped accepting plastic barrels. i have a message into them inquiring about that, but figured i'd explore other options if in fact they do not accept plastic.

Why not try to find other producers who retail more than they make and sell to them at a price higher than what Bascom pays, but less than what Bascom sells barrels at? Maybe in the middle pricewise somewhere.

I would reach out to Purinton Maple in Huntington Vermont, they are a bulk buyer for Nate Bissell of Bissell Maple Farms. Nate is also planning to put together a buy day for producers in Franklin County. It is recommended that you reach out to him if you are in that area.

After you get your syrup sold this year and your barrels empty, I would recommend that you retire them and find some stainless steel ones. I think that you are going to find that pretty much all the industry is going to require stainless steel barrels in a short time and you don’t want to get caught not being able to sell your syrup. If you can’t find a buyer for it in the plastic this year, you can always get some stainless barrels and transfer it into them and take it to Bascoms.
