i have available a 115v variable speed, inline blower motor rated at 230 cfm and my evaporator a lapierre 18'' x 60'' vision evaporator. my question is, would this be usable or would i need something with a larger cfm or perhaps, a squirrel cage blower ?

I would say hook it up and give it a try. Any additional air over the natural draft will be a big help. How much velocity does it have? Does it push your hand away if you go to cover the outlet? Just trying to gauge the strength of it.
I don't have any experience with the type of blower you have, I have only worked with the squirrel cage blower I added to mine. There is such a thing as too big. I had to block off some of the intake on my blower. Mine does not have a rheostat on it, just on and off.
Maybe a small, pellet stove style squirrel cage unit would work better, but I don't have any idea on what cfm rating your inline has or how it would compare to a pellet stove unit.

Sorry, I mistyped there, don't know if the pellet stove unit compares to your 230cfm. This is what happens when I sneak a quick peek and even quicker reply while I'm at work..., lol.

I have the 18x48 vision and run a Harbor Freight 300 cfm utility fan currently. Air is game changer. Used to get 12 gph now we get 20gph. I’m in The process of installing a 250cfm squirrel cage Dayton tonight. It’s a flange mount so it will be a tight seal. On that vision, be sure to block off the door vent on top the glass window or you’ll have ash in the front pan.
