Any body have any hints or tricks to slow down the flow when you lock it down? Its coming out 3 times faster then the coffee urn valve we had been using

Smoky Lake makes a stainless steel reducer to slow to flow out of the Tomlinson valves. Think it’s only about $25.

I struggled with that valve. I put a ball valve before it to cut down the pressure and that helped. If that's your only issue, that will take care of it.

For me the reducer insert for smaller bottles also leaked. I could just never could get it to seat well and not leak. It was a slow leak, but you know how it is if you get a drop on your hand or the side of a bottle. It gets everywhere and you have to stop and clean up all the sticky spots before continuing. Then repeat when it happens again.

I tried seating it in the valve different ways and just gave up and went back to my coffee urn spigot. I LOVE that thing.

Put a small S.S washer between valve and inside fitting that threads into tank. Had to tilt tank a little to get it to drain but it works.

While I never used a Tomlinson valve, I've always had a ball valve ahead of my final dispensing valve. I use a foot operated valve that came with 3 different size outlet adapters, but I quickly decided just having a ball valve before it was much simpler and worket perfectly. For example, each size bottle or just has a flow rate that works best, but also as the level in the reservois affects the opening needed, what is best when the reservois is full is not what is best as the level gets down to 1/2 full and then near the end. A ball valve is easily adjusted quickly as the level drops. While those 3 fittings were OK, the ball valve is perfect. I did it this way when I had a 16x24" bottler, a 14 x 28" bottler and now a large Smoky Lake Water Jacketed bottler.
