Getting ready for the season but not thinking about tapping at all, in anyway.
Lots of efficiency upgrades this year as I am tapping many more trees. 250 to 300 from 150
First RO, 3 Membrane RO from RO Bucket.
First Pump Filter with DE from RO Bucket.

Looks like the last week in February we will see some above freezing temps in the 35 to 38 degree range with lowers in the 21 to 25 range. My experience tells me that these kind of temps as the first above freezing week of the year do not produce any sap because as we are not above freezing for long enough during the day and if they end up being cloudy days things just don’t loosen up. Besides all that I have no shot and being ready to process sap and make syrup the last week in February with the amount of set up I still have to do. It also looks like the first week in March is gonna be pretty cold.
What do you guys think?

I see nothing in the forecast that has me even remotely interested in tapping anytime soon here in Clark county.(I'm on buckets/bags)

We have had a lot of cold and not much snow, so the frost is pretty deep. It will take several days to thaw the trees and even more time to get enough frost out so the trees can take up more water. We tend to get some stronger winds with warm fronts also, and that can kill any run even with the best weather. Typically, my best runs are at the tail end of the season and having the taps in the best shape helps. I may tap my lines next week or the week after to be ready when it does flow but the yard trees will wait for a while yet.

I talked with some bigger producers this week and none of them are taking the bait and taping for this weeks first warm up. They echoed many of the points you guys have made about the deep frost and low snow coverage.
I want to be ready to tap the 1st put plan on taping 8th, 9th or 10th.

I did not tap for that last warm-up. And now it’s gonna be cold for a few days. I think I guessed right. I will tap Saturday.

@Greenfin Have you gotten much sap yet? Not much here. Me and the kid tapped late Friday afternoon and I took 200 gallons tonight to my sap buyer off 180 taps. I kind of wished I would have waited now to tap till this coming Friday/Saturday, with the crazy warm temps this week.
