Is a Sap Puller and a Sap Guzzler the same pump?
Is a Sap Puller and a Sap Guzzler the same pump?
The original Sap Puller was a different style pump than the Guzzler pumps made by Bosworth. The sap puller used a silicone tube that was mounted in a “C” shape with a wheel in the middle that had rollers on it and turned and it squeezed the tube creating suction as it operated and pumped the sap. The Guzzler uses diaphragm being moved up and down to create suction.

The Sap Puller is a peristaltic pump (rollers running around soft tubing to push liquid). The Sap Guzzler or Bosworth-style is a diaphragm pump (made to push liquid out of the chamber). Neither are made to move air efficiently and are therefore quite sensitive to leaks, but if the tubing system is set up properly (recirculation loop helps), kept very tight with a reasonable number of taps (typically about half the maximum rated for), they'll do OK. Once it warms up and the trees generate much gas, vacuum will drop off quickly.
