Hi All,
I have an 8" shasta stovepipe on the evap. The factory screened tip cap is restricive. I'd like to add an open flip top cap but have no idea where to start looking.
Any suggestions for where I should start?
Thanks,
Bryan

Best bet will probably be a maple supply store, or you may be able to find one in the classified ads section of mapletrader. I have never been able to locate them anywhere else. Just hold onto your wallet when you hear the price, they are not cheap.

Also be careful not to buy one labeled as a second (quality or design defect). I've had 2 over the years, first on a 7" or maybe 8" on my old 2x6. It worked perfectly, Pull one line (I actually use 1/16" SS cable), it opens and stays in place, pull the second line and it closes and again stays that way.
On my 3x8 I had a "second" I bought from Bascom and figured I'd figure it out and fix it. I paid $50 for it, looked new. The issue was that the arms to open and close the top were alligned wrong. If I pulled straight down, the cap went over too far and I had to go up on the roof to flip it back. That lasted just one time. Rather than deal with it in season I just made the second line restrict the travel and I made line one so it got anchored to the arch to hold it open. It worked fine but certainly not as it should have. My original plan was to cut the axle on the flip arms and weld them correctly, but my temporary fix was too easy and it never got fixed.

Bryan,
I got mine from Leader back in '09. Works like a champ. I have 1 SS cable hooked up to the 'arm".
Give it a gentle tug to get the arm in motion - and it opens; tug it again, let go, and inertia makes it flip closed.
It's Not the Chinese Hat you see on the H20 site but rather a flat cap with an extended arm...would post pic but I can't.
Found this on a search...

I fabricated a cap with a steel plate welded to a piece of unistrut then bolted to an upright. I pull on a rope from the ground to lift it open and tie the rope to the side of the shack to keep it open. At the end of the day I just undo the rope to let it back down. It's pretty rough but blends in with my shack.
