Well the sad day has come that we have shut down for the season. The buds are swelling and my wife's health is not to good at the moment. She is on the mend but still not well. So we are finishing off the pans tonight and calling it a year. That last heat wave did a number on us being south facing. But hey we broke last year's total and almost made this year's new goal. It's maple so it's all a win:cool:

Tough that you had to call it. Best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery.
Still hanging in down here, but forecast looks scary. Collected and processed 385 gals yesterday from the last two days; but with this forecast we may be done. We are at 65% of last years' total syrup.....Yikes. Used to tap mid-Feb. Last year Feb. 5.............this year Feb. 1. With this global warming thing, I guess we just keep tapping earlier and earlier every year. Before you know it..........we'll be tapping on New Years.

I was looking yesterday afternoon and a lot of my red maples are already flowering and I'm at 1300' in elevation. We tapped 1/20 and had a huge boil the 27th. But besides last year I've never really tapped before the second week in February. I'm hoping to see winter start coming back next year

Wishing good luck and speedy recovery for your wife. All of us seem to be having a strange year and not as prosperous as we would like. At least it hasn’t been a total bust. I think that the end is now in sight and no longer in the rear view mirror.

Thank you BAP, she appreciates the kind words and is doing better, but slowly. I know she enjoys having me back from being maple crazed lol. I keep checking the trees and I haven't seen them pop this early since 2012. How did you do this season?
