This is my first year with my new wood fired CDL Venturi evaporator.
Just wondering what is the process of cleaning the underside of the back pan.
In years past with our smaller evaporator we were able to just pick the pan up and pressure wash it outside.
Don’t really have that option now with this bigger unit.

I was thinking of raising it up off the evaporator with pulleys and giving the underside a good brush with the flue brush. Is that enough ? I have a hood on order for next season and that will just make the removal of the back pan even harder.

i scrub the flues in my back pan every so often. i have a hood on it as well. I have an electric winch and pully system to raise my hood up about 3-4 feet off the flue pan. then i lift the front of the flue pan up 6-8 inches so i can see what i'm doing, and use a flue brush on a broom stick handle so i can reach the back of the flues. a quick brushing every couple of boils seems to work fine for me. That job is on my "to do" list for this weekend! i've seen rigs where there is a door behind the base stack that allows you to brush the flues that way. i don't have room in my sugarhouse for that, but always thought that was a clever idea.
