This is my first time bricking an arch with the door below the stack for a flue brush. I know I've got steel back there, but it just seems odd not bricking the back of the arch. I do have one row of bricks laying flat just below the door and did put a piece of insulation board in front of the flue door and will cut the shape of the door out of the board.

Is that it? Just let the fire blow against that back wall and up the stack?

Danno,

I only have brick's to just past the back of the flue pan. After the fire/heat get's to that point, there's no need to insulate for it. It's not heating sap or syrup by then. Beside's, the temperature of the heat/gases at that point in the arch is a lot less than what it was in the fire box.

Danno,
I agree, keep the doors open so that you can get in there and brush the soot off the flues. Those case doors will take the heat.
