What's the best way to cut fire brick? Chop saw? Roto tool? Sawzall? ...?

I've read that soaking bricks in water until no air bubbles appear will cut down on the dust.

You should rent a masonry chop saw. I assume that most rental shops have them. We rented one from Got-That in Essex this winter. Whatever you do, be aware of the silica dust potential. The masonry saws will mitigate the exposure by pumping a water stream on the blade.

An angle grinder with a masonry disk can do a quick and inexpensive job if there isn’t a lot to do.

I have a wet tile saw, worked great, and no dust! you might need a big one if you are dealing with full bricks, but i think even the the ones that look like little table saws would work with split bricks.

I used my corded circular saw with a masonry blade. Worked great. Soaking the bricks in water really cut down on the dust. The water soaked bricks dry out fast so it's best to cut very soon after taking out of water.

Thanks for all your comments.

I did the same. My wet tile saw is cheap, but it worked great.

way too much work, I would just use a brick hammer.

I also used a circular saw with a masonry blade. I never thought of wetting it to keep the dust down. I could see how it would work well with a chop saw as well.

I used an angle grinder with the diamond cutting blade. I put a large fan on the bench i was cutting blowing most of the dust away from me. It worked fairly well but i will try soaking the bricks for a bit next time.

As others have said, soaking in water first, then skill saw with masonry blade. Quick.
